Samsung Tipped to Be Working on ISOCELL 600-Megapixel Camera Sensor
Samsung is reportedly working on an ISOCELL 600-megapixel sensor. Before that, some jaw-dropping numbers were 108 megapixels, now wait, Samsung is planning to build a 600-megapixel camera sensor - a new leak reveals. This sensor could solve the problem of loss of detail in zoom shooting, even when shooting in 4K or 8K. There are many hurdles that Samsung will have to overcome to make this ISOCELL 600-megapixel camera sensor a likely reality, so don't expect Samsung to announce it anytime soon.
Tipster Ice Universe tweeted that Samsung is working on a 600 megapixel sensor that will reportedly be 1 / 0.57 inch in size. This is much larger than the current 1 / 1.28 inch largest sensor in the Huawei P40 Pro +. The tipster has leaked an image of what appears to be internal employee documentation. It essentially highlights all the hurdles that Samsung has to overcome to realize this ISOCELL 600 megapixel sensor.
The internal document shows that Samsung is trying to solve the problem of the massive camera bump that currently appears to stick out 22mm when integrated. The document says the sensor also occupies 12 percent of the real estate on the back panel of the smartphone, which is sometimes the amount of space occupied by all the sensors together in a multi-camera setup. The internal paper reveals that this work-in-progress 600-megapixel sensor with 0.8um pixel size is huge as of now, and Samsung still has quite a bit of work to do to be able to introduce it on the flagship handsets of the future. Don't expect this sensor to be revealed anytime soon.
There was a 108 megapixel main sensor on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and even the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra launched this year. The next generation of flagship phones are unlikely to see this 600-megapixel sensor, but Samsung is reportedly working on bringing it in the future.
